This seminar is forum for all students who have achieved a level of accomplishment in assignment-based studio courses and wish to build a better understanding of their own work, and the contexts of its making. All forms, dimensions, and practices will be considered in this course, as students gather and use all manner of new information – through readings, writing, viewing, and discussion — to start defining a self-directed path within a field of broad possibilities. Students will become acquainted with critical works, texts and artists’ practices that set foundational precedents for contemporary studio work in all media. They will also learn to identify their own interests within contexts of contemporary and historical ideas, forms and precedents. 2D/3D/4D is a gateway course to consideration for the BFA Program.
